Proposed (but unused) concept for European Bully Kennel Club (color was not a factor as it was a concept)

Bulldog's website says: "...a proposed symbol for the European Bully Kennel Club. It is created from 5 kennel symbols arranged in such a way that they also suggest a 5 pointed star. The identity needed to be versatile and legible, as it would also be used in conjunction with other graphic components – at various sizes."

Clean, strong, classy. The 5 kennels (kennels are small shelters or establishments for dogs) are reduced to a very simple graphic that is clearly recognizable as a form of shelter or housing. The star counter-form is extremely crisp...sometimes designers try to create stars in the negative space of a design but they can turn out slightly skewed...this is very well structured. The openness at the points of the stars make it more inviting to enter into visually. This openness also ties into the open "entry" space of the kennels. Nothing is closed off but your eye pulls it all together...presenting a more approachable feel (nice restraint and graphic sensitivity was used here in not making all the corners touch). Very well balanced and weighted in use of positive and negative space---the kennels don't dominate the star, and the star doesn't dominate the kennels; they work together. Five kennels, for a five star mark (wish it had been used).
